Human Anatomy for Student Nurses

Human Anatomy for Student Nurses

Contrary to popular belief, human anatomy is not limitedto the doctors to study. Human anatomy is always a staple study in almost all health care courses. Of course, each health care course has different area to specialize and focus on.

It is the same for human anatomy for student nurses. For nursing students, human anatomy focuses on the application of how to assess the human body through familiarization of the body parts and their functions. Each nursing student must be familiar on where to lookat whenfinding certain areas to palpate or percuss. In short, human anatomy for student nurses is an essential subject so that adequate assessment, treatment, and care will be given to the patients.

How to Study For Human Anatomy

Each school may provide different curriculum for human anatomy for student nurses. Usually, human anatomy courses start with a theoretical background. Meaning, the human parts are studied in the books. Professors assign readings and give inputs from their personal experience. This part of the course usually comprises half of the course syllabus.

The next and the most essential part is the application. In this area, student nurses are often subject to dissecting cadaveric materials. The cadaver will act as the model for students to observe all the parts as they are described from the book. Procedures such as cutting and dissecting are taught through the use of cadaver.

However, the study of human anatomy for student nurses is not limited to the use of cadaver or dead material. Live objects are also specimen of nursing students. Of course, the cutting and dissecting part are usually taken off the situation.

Most of the time, student nurses are tasked to perform procedures to one of the student nurses as well. They might be asked to palpate certain areas (usually they are looking for pulse from the different parts of the body.) Live subjects are also essential if they need to study the right procedure in drawing blood from humans.

More importantly, live humans are necessary for student nurses because they need to apply and integrate everything they learned from human anatomy towards the notion of giving care to the patients. This is essential because giving care is one of the working principles of the nursing profession.

Student nurses deal with several subjects all dealing about people and their health. However, before moving on to more advanced levels, it is but logical to have them study and master one important subject – the human body and its functions. Doing so will not only familiarize them with what are the different parts of the body and their functions, but also the corresponding malfunctions in case one falls ill or one body part does not work well. This field of study is no other than human anatomy.

Human Anatomy

Basically, human anatomy is studying the human body from its full form and structure (bones, muscles) to its smallest parts (cells, tissues, and organs). It centers on the different parts of the body and how they coordinate in order for the body to function.

Indeed, like any study involving people, human anatomy is a very interesting field. As they say, it never gets boring. People always undergo changes and evolution. Each body part is assigned and reassigned to a different function. Not to mention, to each individual, body structure, form, and even functions are different.
